Well hello gentle reader … or words to that effect. It’s been a leetle while since I put pudgy digits to keyboard to entertain you hasn’t it? Copious apologies. The pandemic has thrown us all for a loop for the last two and a bit years but now it’s time to regroup and snatch back whatever passes for normal. And to mark that, Annette created a vignette referencing our mood for the day, with incredible fabric caravans created by her sister. Clearly creativity runs in the family .. agree? And we were indeed happy campers as we assembled today in Hoddles Creek.
Since I last wrote you we’ve had our Christmas break, then the threat of a new Covid strain which effectively ‘nixed’ our February gathering. An unscheduled personal day off in March … and during all that .. my laptop ‘froze’ and refused to cooperate. Aaargh!!
Meanwhile to keep you all up to speed Jenny has done a stellar job with her Newsletter updates on our website together with many photos of the awesome donations that have found their way to us in the interim as well as news of quilts we’ve gifted and Markets that we’ve had a presence at. She’s pretty amazing in keeping us all informed isn’t she?
So now I’ve put my laptop in the naughty corner, dusted off my iPad, put Facebook footling on the back burner, cancelled online shoe shopping 😉 and hopped on here to fill you in on our get together gathering today .. April 9th 2022.
We had rather a small but enthusiastic contingent of QFO members at our Hoddles Creek hall .. present and eager to get down to it were Annette, Libby, Jennifer, Yvonne, Deborah, Christine, Cheryl, Mel, Elaine and yours truly.
When I arrived at the Hall Annette and Deborah were already hard at work unloading Annette’s trusty van .. which was packed to the proverbial with a recent donation from an estate, including a Horn sewing cabinet and much other sewing materials. What a blessing and thank you so very much to the family who carried out the original owners wishes. So very much appreciated 🙏❤️
There was a lot of selecting, measuring, ironing and folding of fabric into Fat Quarters to go to our Market fundraising efforts. Libby attached a binding to a quilt, Yvonne got our Gammill quilting it’s little heart out, and I did some ‘homework’ hand finishing the binding on another quilt.
Julie, our stalwart ironer wasn’t able to be with us, so in her absence Deborah got busy wielding the iron with flair.
And … speaking of donations, as I did a little earlier. a quick snap of some of the largesse that has just come our way from our very own Gaynor … many thanks Gaynor for your kindness in creating these quilts. I believe you are busy, busy stitching up a storm offsite for the Ukraine 🇺🇦. Many heartfelt thanks 🙏
I mentioned the prepping of Fat Quarters didn’t I? Well here we have Christine and Jennifer sorting and selecting fabric for that very purpose.
And In between some quilting whilst all this Fat Quartering was going on … Annette and Yvonne had time for a catch-up over a mid morning cuppa.
Then .. ‘just like that’ 🫰 it was lunchtime.Time flies when you’re having fun.
And all too soon it was 3 pm and time for us to pack up and depart. Tempus fugit and all that. But … as detailed in our Newsletter link on our website .. there will be a small contingent at the Hall this coming Tuesday to do more prepping. And prior to that, tomorrow Sunday the 10th we will have a presence at a Market to spread the word of our endeavours and generate funding thru sales of quilts. See our Newsletter for details.
And now I’ll get this quick Blog off my iPad and into cyberspace for you to read.
Stay well until my next epistle …
Blessings,
Susan
