Well here we are at the start of another year ... and we had our first 'Workday' gathering on Monday, where plans were made for not only our first Saturday quilting day on February 10th, but also for some of the rest of our year. You can never be too organised and we look forward to some wonderful stitching days as the year progresses. Present on Monday were Yvonne, Annette, Christine, Jenny, Pauline, Isobel and myself.
Yvonne, Isobel, Pauline, Christine and Jenny discussing plans for the year ahead. It will be a busy one .. I can assure you of that :)
And a reminder to those blessing us with quilt tops ... as a lot of the places that we gift our quilts to are now looking after older children, the current size we are providing is pretty much single bed size ... that is 55" x 75". We are able to 'upsize' tops that are slightly smaller than this size, but it just means finding compatible fabric for extra borders.
Before I get too far ahead of myself however, I will post a couple of photos of quilt and fabric blessings that we have received in recent weeks. Firstly, from Janine Nankervis ... we received this gift of pieced blocks which we will enjoy integrating into a quilt. Thank you so very much Janine ... they are lovely.
And, donated from a generous lady in Gippsland (whose name I didn't catch, sorry) and who has connections with the 'L for Leather' folk ... this lovely quilt top which was completed by our Christine. Lovely pieced sailing ships ... aren't they brilliant? Thank you so very much ... your kindness is appreciated.
And a huge bag of fabric from Shirley Kidd ... this will keep us quilting for a while Shirley, thank you so very much ..
Now I mentioned some of the plans we have afoot for our March sewing Saturday and it will involve a 'class' of sorts for our regular attendees. Christine showed us a lovely quilt top and we thought it would be a great idea to introduce a 'learning' session of piecing quilt tops in something other than a standard square patch. I think the end results will be amazing ... what say you?
This will be such fun to put together ...
Annette also told us of the pleasure with which our recent gifting of cot quilts to the Waverley Patchworkers Group was received. They, in turn, conveyed these cot quilts to Monash Hospital and we hear that they were much appreciated. The following mention was given in their Newsletter and we thank them for their kindness in acknowledging us.
'After the Quilters on High Christmas party, Jenny and I took 17 quilts, some handmade teddies & dolls and some art supplies to Monash Children’s Hospital. We were given a personalised tour of the new hospital by Staff from the Foundation and Play Therapy. They emphasised the important role our quilts play in cheering up & providing comfort to the very ill children in their care. I would like to thank Quilts for Orphans, who have generously given us a bundle of cot quilts. We have already given some away.'
This was in addition to 40 cot quilts which we had also gifted to the Babes Project. Always a pleasure to see our quilts go to a good home where they will give comfort when most needed.
So we soon had Pauline, Christine and Jenny busy preparing the piecings for the March gathering. Promises to be a lot of fun as we put together the tops.
No we also have coming up our place at the Monbulk Quilt Fair. This promises to be a wonderful day out and will take place on March 3rd. I will upload a flyer with all the details as soon as it is at hand, but pencil in the date as it will be showcasing wonderful quilts created by extremely talented quilters.
And on that note I will wind up this edition of the QFO Blog .. but don't fret ... there will be another newsy update after our Saturday quilting day which will take place on Saturday February 10th. I look forward to sharing with you all that takes place on that day .. and thank you all for your continued support of our efforts to provide fabric hugs both global and local.
Till then, many blessings and don't forget to visit our website .. remember that the more 'traffic' it receives .. the higher its visibility on the world wide web ... and the more folk we can let know about our little quilt ministry :)
Look forward to blogging for you in a very short time ... stay well .. and happy stitching
