Well here we are again, a third of the way thru 2017 and another super busy day at the Barn on Saturday April 8th.
Present and accounted for on Saturday were Isobel, Yvonne, Alice, Sandi, Joy, Win, Sheryl, Julie, Val, Gaynor, Sinling, Mel, Emily, Jan and yours truly. The sun was shining .... (and we were incredibly blessed, as an awesome storm with a bajillion 'special effects' hit the area a few hours later!!)
Before I head into the sharing of the days events ... I must mention a teensy bit of news that I found amid my inward emails just now .. clearly I should check them more often. Good blogmasters Typepad have awarded QFO a tidy amount of free blogtime under their 'Random Acts of Kindness' winners (which I had totally forgotten I had entered!!). How awesome, and something that will be most appreciated by the QFO financial purse minder :) Typepad also gave us a free 'plug' on their own website blog ... awfully decent of them and thanks muchly :) The Link is below should you care to have a looksee. Hopefully I copied and pasted it correctly.
Now onto the news from Saturday. Firstly a picture of our Reg and Stan .. who had filled his 4WD to capacity with our furnishing fabric. This gifting from us to his organisation ... made up of seven local churches who provide mattress covers and laundry bags for those experiencing homelessness in our area .... will enable them to continue providing support for folk doing it tough. These worthy churches take it in turns to provide each week a hot shower, a meal and a bed for the night for 15 individuals who would otherwise sleep rough. What an amazing ministry eh? Certainly QFO was only too happy to be able to help them.
Giftings go out ... and giftings come in ... and here are this months donations from incredibly kind souls offsite. Firstly from Tricia at Deakin University ... some amazing fabric donations which she passed on to our Christine last month.
Gaynor .... like a kid in a candy store .... ;)
So much fabric ... and thank you SO very much Tricia, this will all be put to incredibly good use by QFO :)
And now some quilt top and other stitchery donations ... firstly from Vicki Smith from Huntly in New Zealand, this stunner. Isn't it a beauty? Thank you so much Vicki .. your quilt top made us all gasp .. just gorgeous!!
And from the Grainshed Church stitchers in Swan Hill ... this wonderful parcel of goodies :)
How gorgeous ... many thanks Grainshed folks :) These are gorgeous ...
And from our regular team in North Ryde ... mother and daughter team of Sylvia and Edith ...
Isn't this brilliant?
Such lovely work ladies ... thank you both so very much. It's always a pleasure to open your parcels to us :)
Next ... a 'UFO' .. received by us ... (possibly the work of Jennifer Knol) ... and completed by Gaynor. Love the colours in this, pinks and greens are always a beautiful pairing.
And a close up of the very accurate piecing ...
And this lovely donated piece ... which was completed for us by our Joy ... such an intricate pattern. So many clever quilters out there. And generous too!!
Sheryl pieced this cute 'monkey print' cot size top. Yvonne apparently has a great custom quilting pattern which has monkeys with bananas which will finish it off a treat :) Cannot wait to see it.
And from another new quilter, Sinling ... this pretty piece .... cot size and gorgeous.
Below, from Jan ... this lovely 'Log Cabin' piecing in shades of pink. Very effective ...
Next .. a 'quilt as you go' ... also by Jan. Isn't her quilting beautiful?
Also by Jan .. this lovely orange and green offering ...
And finally, from Jan .... this dramatic black and gold quilt top. Wonderful and stunning.
Mel, another of our 2017 'newbies' ... is making a great start with this lovely colour combo of hot pink and orange ... cannot wait to see the finished quilt top ..
And our Emily had been busy too ... with this olive green bordered piece ... surrounding starburst 'blocks'.
Our Barns was an absolute hive of activity on Saturday .. from every angle there were ladies choosing fabrics, measuring, cutting and creating.
Sheryl, Julie, Yvonne, and Jan ..
Sandi, Win and Emily .....
Joy, Sheryl with Isobel in the background.
Val ... a whizz with the ruler and rotary cutter.
A short break for our themed lunch of 'finger foods and quiches' ....
Before we were back to work. Here Sinling is choosing border fabrics with which to enhance a recently donated UFO. This beautiful piece will be transformed into a table runner.
And on our 'planning board' here is another 'work in progress' ... which has been enhanced with appliqued centres ... isn't it pretty?
And that, dear reader, winds up this months Blog offering. It's been a privilege to be able to share with you our latest news and I look forward to doing it all again NEXT month :)
Please don't forget to visit our website at http://www.quiltsfororphans.org/ as continued 'traffic' helps to keep us in prime position on dear old Googles search engine. And this in turn keeps us super visible to those looking for a place to 'destash', stitch for and support our efforts to send our fabric hugs around the globe.
And we are also on 'social media' at Facebook ... wander over and give our Page a thumbs up 'Like', every little bit of exposure helps encourage us.
We gather again on May 13th, our Lunch Theme will be Chinese food and there will no doubt be much stitching, laughter and companionship on that day. Now I will do the sharing of our Links to those we stitch for and those who have thrown themselves behind us. Blessings till next Blogpost,
