Well here we are again .... has it really been a month since my last Blogpost? I guess it has ... so without further ado I will leap into the May Blog and share our activities from this Saturday just passed.
We gathered at the Barn on May 14th, and present (and accounted for) were: Deborah. Val. Christine. Jan, Val (yes, we have two), Pauline, Sandi, Gaynor, Maxine, Carol, Isobel, Jenny, Alice, Carol (yes ... two of these ladies as well), Tracy and yours truly. It was a delightful day and we were soon hard at work on a new endeavour, which I will fill you in on presently. But first ... an acknowledgement of the donation blessings we have received at the barn since last month.
From our dedicated mother and daughter team of Sylvia and Edith ... we were thrilled to receive three completed and beautiful quilts. These two ladies have been incredibly dedicated and busy and it is always an absolute pleasure to open a parcel from them.
Such a lovely way with fabrics ....
Isn't their work just lovely? Thank you so very much ladies .... such generosity and talent. Wonderful.
I also have been asked to thank Helen and her mother, from Ringwood, for the lovely array of fabrics recently gifted to us. You will see this fabric appear in quilts we make before too much longer .... thank you both so very, very much. Generous donations such as yours make our creation of quilts possible and enable us to bless more and more children around the globe. Thank you.
Now, we have our 'Show and Tell' segment, where our onsite stitchers show us what they have been busy stitching over the last few weeks. Firstly .... from Sandi ...
The Cat in the Hat .... with delightful Dr Seuss fabric. Sure to enthrall a child ...
And .... some lovely equine themed fabric. Just lovely ... I look forward to seeing these two custom quilted.
From Jan .. who is an absolute whizz at creating well pieced quilt tops from scraps ...
This one was created by Jan using scraps of binding fabrics.
And finally, from Christine ... a lovely top which incorporates 'stitcheries' she created ....
Lovely work Christine .... and so much patience involved in all that hand stitching.
Now we had a new 'project' to occupy us on Saturday. We have been asked to provide 'tote bags' for the victims of the recent hurricane which hit Tanner Island near Vanuatu. Of course we said 'yes' so were soon busy making sturdy, lined bags ...
Deborah ... getting into the spirit ...
One of the completed bags ... think our target is to be 200 bags ... !!!
And another ...
Now whilst those of us with sewing machines all threaded up and humming were assembling tote bags ... others in our groups were busy handsewing ... you guessed it ... quilt bindings.
Alice, Maxine and Carol ....
... and two Carols in the same frame :)
Gaynor ... busy, busy, busy as usual .....
Then a short break for lunch ... the Theme was 'Surprise us' ... so many and varied tasty comestibles were on offer from the ladies ... and served up with style by Reg.
And .... desserts ....
And that, dear reader .. wraps up the May Blogpost. Short, sweet and satisfyingly busy with stitching :) We will keep our hands occupied between now and when we meet up in June, making more tote bags for Vanuatu... and look forward to updating you with our progress toward 'target' then. Meeting up on June 11th ... with the lunch 'Theme' being 'Soups and Sweets', perfect for the approach of winter.
Till then, I wish you all a wonderful interim month, and will do my customary 'cut and paste' of the relevant details of our supporters, and those we support with our quilts.
Stay safe, blessings,
